  • National code bolsters Victoria's already tough swimming pool rules
    New swimming pools in Victoria will require four-sided pool fencing when the Building Code of Australia 2010 comes into effect.

  • Private Bushfire Shelter Building Regulations overturn misinformation and misconceptions in the marketplace
    The Victorian Government is moving ahead of National Building Regulations, by bringing in new Download Building_Amendment_(Private_Bushfire_Shelter_Construction)_Interim_Regulations_20091.pdf interim regulations (554KB).   • Building Amendment Regulations 2009 effective 1 September 2009
    The Building Amendments Regulations 2009 are effective from 1 September 2009. They amend the Building Regulations 2006 and support the Building Act Amendments of 2008.   • Building Amendment (Bushfire Construction) Further Interim Regulations 2009 effective 1 September 2009
    The Regulations apply to the reconstruction of a Class 1 building destroyed by the February bushfires which is in a WMO. These building have been exempted from the requirement for planning permits required by a number of triggers in the planning scheme including a WMO.

    The new regulations apply some of the important bushfire safety requirements that would have applied under the WMO. These are access for emergency vehicles and installation of a static dedicated fire fighting water supply. The Regulations can be downloaded here.     

    Please note that the transition provisions of section 10 of the Building Act will apply to both sets of Regulations where a relevant building surveyor is satisfied and certifies in writing that substantial progress has been made on a design.

  • Annual increase in Statutory fees
    Statutory fees have been increased by 3% in accordance with the CPI increase announced by the Treasurer. The new fees are listed in the table below.

  • Brumby government launches practical and accessible homes for all Victorians
    In an Australian first, the Brumby Government will introduce a package of measures to encourage Victorians to Build for Life. A new community awareness campaign and regulatory measures will allow one in five Victorians who have a disability or are over the age of 60 to build accessible features into new homes.

  • BCA2010: Draft for public comment
    Please note that the Public Comment Draft of BCA2010 is now on the ABCB website. Comments close on 3 August 2009 and must be sent to BCA2010@innovation.gov.au.

  • Australian Standard
    The Standard is available for purchase from SAI Global, Standards Australia publication arm or can be downloaded from BCA on-line if you have a current subscription. For information on all Victorian Acts and Regulations these documents can be downloaded from the Victorian Legislation and Parliamentary Documents website.

  • Amendments to the Building Regulations July 2009
    The Building Amendment (Fees) Regulations 2009 have been made and came into operation on 1 July 2009. They amend the Building Regulations 2006 (the Regulations). The effect of the amendments relate to a CPI increase of 3.0 per cent to most regulated fees in the building industry.
