    Learn how to comply with legislation, as well as provide dignified access for people with disabilities to and within heritage buildings, at Heritage Victoria's 'Disability Access in Heritage Buildings Master Class'. This master class will appeal to architects, planners, heritage consultants, access consultants, builders, TAFE trainers and anyone with a general interest in disability access.

  • Yarra Sustainability Awards          NOW OPEN                                                     Close 31 March 2010

Yarra City Council invites you to enter your building project or design into the Yarra Sustainability Awards 2010. The inaugural Yarra Sustainability Awards are your chance to share your creative design ideas and achievements with the Yarra community, whether it is a new construction, renovation or building addition. The Innovation in Sustainable Building Design category for new construction and major renovations aims to encourage and promote quality and creative design which has minimised impacts on the environment and made a positive contribution to our neighbourhood and streetscape.

Nominations can be made for residential, commercial or community facilities located within the City of Yarra and can be made by any member of the project team, e.g. architects, builders, owner builder and residents. Entries close at 5pm, 31 March 2010.

  • AIRAH Information workshop on Section j (Volume One)                                  29 April 2010

The Australian Government's policy for greenhouse gas emission reduction includes significant improved energy efficiency in buildings. From May this year the Building Code of Australia (Volume One) drastically improves energy efficiency measures in Section J.

 Find out about the proposed changes to the following:

    •  Offices - between 14 and 22% energy reduction
    •  Department stores - between 22 and 27% energy reduction
    •  Schools / Universities - between 18 and 31% energy reduction
    •  Hospitals - between 14 and 40% energy reduction
    •  Office buildings heating plant improvements up to 12%, cooling plant up to 26%, fans and pumps a massive 52%  .
