The Building Commission is committed to a strong working relationship with local government.

Local government plays a significant role in building control. The services provided through local government assist in protecting the community from major risks to life and property and contribute to the sustainability of our built environment. The importance to the Commission of local government's role in ensuring a safe building system and sustainable outcomes in its municipality cannot be overstated.

The Building Commission has developed a Download Local_Government's_role_in_Building_Control_-_Fact_Sheet.pdf factsheet (365KB) for Local Governments, explaining the role of local governments in building control and provides a brief guide to the opportunities and obligations Councils have in the building process.

New Practice Notes

News

The Building Commission recently published six new Practice Notes:

Practice Notes are explanatory notes which provide guidance, clarification and interpretations to parts of the legislative framework. Practice Notes have no legal force, however, they provide useful guidance to the industry and stakeholders.

You can order up to 50  copies (more than the 30 mentioned on the form!) of each publication in a single order free of charge.
