Who can complain?

Any person who considers they have been discriminated against because of their disability can lodge a complaint through a number of avenues.

Who should you complain to?

The first step should be to talk to the person who is responsible.

You could initially lodge your complaint with the building owner of occupier.

If your complaint relates to buildings that are under construction or have recently been completed, you could initially talk with the building surveyor responsible for the project.

If you wish to complain about the conduct of the building surveyor or other building professionals you can lodge a complaint with the Building Commission.

If you are unable to resolve the situation through talking with the person responsible for the discrimination, you could then lodge a complaint with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC), for federal legislation complaints, or the Equal Opportunity Commission of Victoria ( EOCV) for state legislation complaints.

Who can help with your complaint?

If you are thinking about making a complaint, you might want to consider obtaining free legal advice from the Disability Discrimination Law Advocacy Service or a Community Legal centre.
