Research

The Building Commission is committed to industry research, primarily focusing on:

  • Reviewing current building legislation, procedures and codes;
  • Responding to market trends and Industry feedback; and
  • Encouraging Innovation within the Building and Construction Industry.

In conducting research projects, the Commission partners with the following institutions and research centres:

  • Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation;
  • Australian Building Codes Board;
  • University of Melbourne;
  • Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology;
  • Victoria University; and
  • Queensland University of Technology.

The seven key research funding areas are:

  1. Environmental Sustainability.
  2. IT&T in the Building Industry.
  3. Amendment of Building Legislation and Procedures.
  4. Review of Safety Features, Procedures & Codes.
  5. Management & Development of Industry Expectations.
  6. Analysis of the Construction Market.
  7. Accessibility.

The Commission has completed a number of projects and several others are in progress. The Commission welcomes suggestions for future Victorian research projects via publicrelations@buildingcommission.com.au.
